Music

Written 2/9/2026

Music may be one of the greatest influences and forces in my life. I cannot find the words to appropriately describe the immensely positive impact music has had on my life. I am not a musician, I am simply describing how experiencing music as an art form has given my life something so deep and profound and impactful. The only thing that can compare to the emotions and fulfillment music provides me is love. Music and love stand alone atop the mountain in my mind.

Supreme nourishment for the mind and the soul. Music has inspired me to be a better and more considerate person. Music has inspired me to seek fulfillment through self-expression, it has increased my general awareness. Simply put, it has blown open doors in my life that would have otherwise stayed shut.

I have spent countless hours listening to music with others, many times at night, sometimes around a fire, or sitting cross-legged on the floor in a circle. Being with those you care about, sharing music with each other, and discussing what it means to you and how it has impacted your lives is so enriching and meaningful. The experience of witnessing someone in real time react similarly to you, to a piece of music you love, is one of life’s greatest joys. Listening to and sharing music with others has directly led to some of the most meaningful conversations I have ever had with others. Open heart, no façade, real and raw. Extreme moments of deep bonding. To a certain degree, most of us sheath ourselves in various disguises as we navigate through society and life in general. Music that you truly feel in your soul will cause you to shed your disguise, however elaborate it may be. I have gotten to know people on a level where a mutual understanding of a lifelong bond exists. Even if I do not regularly see or communicate with some of these people anymore, I know they are out there facing down life as a kindred soul, fighting their battle as I do, and if life brings us together once more, we will pick up right where we left off.

Musicians provide a unique score to each of our lives. The music we listen to reflects who we are at every stage of our journey. It keeps us company, it provides a shoulder to cry on, it acts as a wall to bounce ideas off of, and it is always there to ensure us that we are not alone, and that we do in fact understand each other, on some level at least.

Keep an open mind, listen to anything that you are even remotely interested in. Be vulnerable and allow the music to tell you who you really are. Live in ecstasy in the sonic worlds that inhabit the frontiers of your perception.
